Data Labels Used On This Page

Each cost line is labelled so users can see whether it comes from a government or statistical source, an institution-style estimate, a rental market estimate or a user-adjustable planning value.

Methodology and Source Notes

This page combines official 2026 checks with planning estimates for city living costs. IRCC lists that proof of financial support must cover tuition, living expenses and transportation, and shows CAD 22,895 for one applicant outside Quebec for applications on or after September 1, 2025, excluding tuition and transportation. Quebec has its own CAQ-related financial coverage process.

Statistics Canada reported average 2025/2026 tuition of CAD 41,746 for full-time international undergraduate students and CAD 24,028 for full-time international graduate students. CMHC’s 2026 rental market update notes that asking rents have eased in several major markets, while conditions still vary by market segment, vacancy and turnover.

City-level monthly costs on this page are planning ranges, not fixed prices. Students should verify the exact DLI tuition schedule, residence or lease terms, provincial health insurance rules, study permit fees, biometrics status, Quebec CAQ rules when relevant and current IRCC instructions before making a final budget.

Planning estimate — verify current tuition, housing, insurance and government requirements before relying on a final budget.
